On a Pajero Trip with the Martens Family

The Martens on their Pajero trip

The Martens Family from Holland had an exciting whole day adventure on a Pajero trip with Elian as their guide and driver. They visited the famous Tamaraw Falls and at the end of the trip, they rode on a cart pulled by a carabao all the way to Tukuran lagoon where they took the opportunity to swim its clear cool water. Lunch was at Ponderosa Golf Club, about 2,000 feet above sea level where they enjoyed the magnificent view of Puerto Galera and its famous coves.

Nothing but blue skies, clear sea and sunny day

After lunch, they visited the Mangyan community at the Talipanan Mangyan Village. Here, they got first hand experience into the Mangyan’s way of life. The Martens promised that when they come back, they would bring some clothes for the villagers.

A short pit stop at Tamaraw Falls

Remie, with his lovely wife Modesta and children Floris and Jasmin are first timers in the Philippines and at Coco Beach. According to them, they had a wonderful time at the resort and with the staff always there to assist them, the Martens decided to extend their stay for one more day with a promise to come back soon.

Coco Mangyans vs. Danish Dynamites

Round 10 of the Volleyball Match for 2010

Another volleyball showdown took place between the Danish Dynamites and the Coco Mangyans at the beachfront. The Danish players were father & sons Lars, Thom and Christian Jorgensen, Peter and Anders Dilling and Jeanette Olsen. The Coco Mangyan players were Activity guide Darwin, Barmen Phol and Willy, Service boy Efren, Waiters Welbert and Erwin and Coco Cinema’s operator Warlito.

Two days before the game, these Danish Players wondered how true that the Coco Mangyan team has never been beaten in beach volleyball. The Coco Mangyans politely explained that they had lost several times in previous years but this year, 2010, they had been on a winning streak with a perfect record of 9 wins – 0 losses. So the Danish decided to go on a mission to break the Mangyans’ perfect record.

Friday at 4pm, the showdown started. The never ending fight between the Danish Dynamites and the Coco Mangyans was about to take another round. The first set was easy fro the Danish as they showed the Mangyans that they really like to win and break their record. On the second set the Danish got the early lead with a score of 9-3. Their Families and friends have started cheering jubilantly but the Mangyan Team bounced back and took sweet revenge. The third and the final set was full of action and excitement. The Danish Team got the lead with the score of 9-5. However, the Mangyans bounced back and showed the Dynamites who ruled the court. Once again, the Coco Mangyan team successfully defended their championship title with a score of 15-12 on the final set.

At the end of the game, everybody celebrated with a case of ice cold beer courtesy of the Danish Dynamites.

Rainy Day Activity for the Kids

Candies galore during the Pabitin, a traditional Filipino game

It was a rainy Monday at Coco Beach…but the activity guys prepared an early activity for the Children. When the rains stop at around 10 in the morning, the activity guys took the opportunity and played the traditional Filipino games at the Children's playground. As usual, the parents could not stop themselves from trying out the games. Rie Rondberg from Denmark was declared the winner. She and her family had been here 2 years ago. They said that they enjoyed their stay here the last time that it made them decide to come back. A Coco Beach T-shirt was given to the lucky winner.

Rei and Ginalyn won themselves a coco t-shirt

Then at 4 in the afternoon the children proceeded to the printing shop, Floris and Jasmin, the Martens kids from Netherlands together with Suromia of Denmark got ready for some painting lessons our in-house artist had prepared for them. The kids had great fun and enjoyed their first ever painting lessons with George, the artist. After the lessons, they bought their own hand-painted shirts as souvenirs and showed them to their parents and friends that they now know how to paint.

Clean Up Day & Releasing of Turtles

Two events you shouldn’t miss, are coming up soon.

The dates are getting closer if you want to join. The first event is on September 25 where we are having the International Beach and Underwater Cleanup day. It is an event for divers and non divers, so everybody can join.

Therefore we are asking for your help to target underwater debris. We are organizing a beach and underwater cleanup in partnership with Project AWARE Foundation.

Join 15,000 AWARE divers in more than 100 countries around the globe to document rubbish found beneath the water's surface and help prevent the marine debris epidemic affecting our ocean planet.

For 17 years, Project AWARE, in partnership with divers and snorklers, have tackled marine debris underwater and along the shore. Six million tonnes of debris enter the world’s oceans every year wreaking havoc on underwater creatures and environments.

In 2009, divers removed over 252.000 kg of debris. 92 countries collected a staggering 140.814 cigarette filters, 78.854 plastic bags and found baby sharks, fairy penguins, moray eels and sea turtles, entangled and killed by the debris.

Tell us if you want to help us to remove some of the debris from the ocean. We can’t remove all, but if we all help, we can make a difference.

The second event – release of our turtles

This event will be on October 14, where we will release our Hawksbill sea turtles into the ocean. On that day they will turn 2 ½ years and it will be time for us to say goodbye to them. But we hope that they are big enough to stay in the area, so divers and snorklers can have the pleasure to see them around Coco Beach.

Even they are getting big now, the turtle feeding everyday is still a big attraction.

Many people are gathered to watch the feeding.

While changing the water in the turtle pond, we got some volunteers to hold the turtles for some pictures.

The lucky people hold the turtles are from left to right: Marielou, Iain, Fely and Marjorie.

The biggest turtle we have for the moment weighs 8 ¼ kg. now.

So if you want to join us on the release of the turtles, make sure to book your vacation in time.
