Cocktails and Mocktails at the Bar Mixing Lessons

Big smiles and great drinks from Bartender Obet

Bar Mixing is all about making cocktails and is one of our friendly bartenders’ activities for our guests.

Our lessons begin with a fascinating introduction to spirits and how the term “cocktail” came to be. After the brief introduction our guests get to watch and listen as the bartender explains how the spirits and mixers are combined to create these potent but flavorful concoctions  we all know and love so well. Not only will the guest learn  how to make the cocktails, they also get a short orientation on the  utensils, equipment and techniques employed to make these perfect drinks.

With lessons learned, our guests will be able to make the not so innocent Long Island Iced Tea and for the more timid ones, take the saintly route and mix  a non-alcoholic Piña Colada. Guests can even learn how to make our highly recommended drinks like Weng–Weng, Sex on the Beach  and  Mindoro Glow.

Don’t miss our Bar Mixing Lessons! It’s done every Friday at the Anito Bar starting at 3pm. Our handsome bartenders would be more than happy to share a secret drink or two with you. And after the lessons, you can just segue to our Happy Hour at 4pm with a drink of your own.

Weaving with May-may and Belen

Coco Beach offers weaving lessons to guests who are interested to learn  this native craft. Weaving has been part of the Filipino’s culture and has been around since pre-Hispanic times. Much of the materials have not changed which include leaves, vines and in our case, bamboo sticks.

May-may (in green) shows how to weave thin bamboo sticks

Activity Coordinators Belen and May-may decided to learn this activity and take it to the next level by making native fans of different shapes and styles from the woven bamboo sticks with the help of our master weaver and  Supervisor  of the Services Department, Modesto.

It took the two ladies a week to learn the craft and by then, they were ready to teach others. Belen and May-may now offer free weaving lessons at the Shopping Arcade any day at 3 in the afternoon. You can also buy these beautiful fans at very affordable prices. Just look for Belen and May-may at the Activity Center and make an appointment with them for the weaving lessons. You can also book other activities such as tours and excursions with them and they can also arrange so many fun-filled activities for you and your kids that will make them happy.

Give Sharks a Fighting Chance!

It's been one month since Project AWARE launched the "Give Sharks a Fighting Chance" petition to demand international protection for critical shark species on the brink. In just a few short weeks nearly 25,000 divers and shark advocates like you have voiced their concern.

Hammerhead shark.

If you've not yet taken action - your help is needed today. Sign the petition to give threatened sharks species like hammerheads, oceanic whitetip and spiny dogfish a chance to survive.

Thank you to each of the 25,000 supporters who've signed the petition so far. With your help we're preparing to deliver a clear message to CITES Party representatives and demand better shark protection worldwide. As I've read through the signatures and concerns from divers around the globe, one thing is clear - divers are uniting with a common goal to demand better shark protection worldwide.

Oceanic Whitetip shark.

Despite recent setbacks at CITES 2010, shark advocates like you have helped secure protections in Europe, Palau, Maldives and most recently, Hawaii. As we speak, the United States Senate is poised to take action on the Shark Conservation Act to strengthen anti-finning legislation and show leadership in shark conservation.

But to ensure survival for the most vulnerable and heavily traded shark species, we must persuade CITES Party representatives around the world to control international trade for the future.

Spiny Dogfish.

Please take two minutes of action and sign the petition today. Already signed? Help spread the word by asking your family, friends and colleagues to sign. Do you Facebook or tweet? Post the petition page to your favorite social networking sites.

Thank you for being part of this global effort.
