Coco’s Baboy Game

Different styles of tossing the tiny pigs

Last week, the staff of Coco Beach had a great and exciting time playing the “piggy challenge” or what we call in local parlance as “baboy” game. The “baboy” game is usually played in the resort when the big bosses, Enrico and Connie are here. This time around, Luca was here to do the challenge and as expected, everybody had a great time rolling a pair of cute little rubber piggies on the table hoping to get the highest number of points and win big prizes.

Everyone is ready and willing to take on the baboy

The game is similar to rolling a pair of dice with corresponding points for every position, be it upright, on the side, snout down or with all 8 legs up in the air. Pity on the person who loses all his points in one roll!

The winners got five, three and two thousand for the first, second and third place respectively. But the most challenging part of the game is to determine who will be the last two players who get the lowest scores as they would have to wash the dishes in the kitchen or clean the restrooms for 4 hours.

The game was played in two batches. After tossing the miniature pigs for 5 rounds, the first batch winners were Chef Lito 1st (Trattoria), Ferdie 2nd (bar supervisor) and Lani 3rd (waitress). Marie (Luca’s girlfriend) and Renato the resort’s GRO for some reason, did not communicate well with the pigs and got zero points the whole time. Sportingly though, Marie and Renato gamely washed the dishes in the kitchen for 4 hours after the game.

The second batch winners were Sahlee 1st (stockroom clerk), May-May 2nd (function organizer) and Elian 3rd (activity supervisor). Allan (stockroom) and Edgar (kitchen) shared the same luck as Marie and Renato and had to do chores 4 hours.

See you on the next round of the baboy game.

Coco Mangyan vs Danish Dynamite II

Beer time after a tough game

Tuesday at 4 pm, the beach started to fill up with spectators for the much awaited volleyball showdown part 2 between the Coco Mangyans versus the Danish Dynamites.

In our previous issue of the Coco Weekend News the Danish Dynamites lost to the Coco Mangyans and demanded for a re-match to which the Mangyans gamely agreed.

Before the final showdown, both teams practiced and had some changes in their line-up of players. The Coco Mangyans formed an all-Filipino team made up of players RJ (activity), Jun-jun (flat boat operator), Efren (room boy), Phol (bartender), Marlo (beach boy) and Abet (waiter). Luca who was with the Mangyan team in the first game opted to play with his fellow countrymen for this showdown.

The spectators started to cheer for their teams as the match began. The game was played even more tightly than in the previous game as each player gave his very best to make their teams win and with this kind of game, it was but natural for some friendly teasing and ribbing from each team.

The first set was dominated by the Mangyans (15-11). The Danish bounced back on the second set and they got it so easy (15-8). The 3rd and final set proved to be the most exciting as the battling teams ended up with deuces three times. But in the end, the Coco Mangyans successfully defended their title as champions with a perfect record of 9 wins-0 losses.

Better luck next time Vikings, the Mangyans are tougher and still the reigning champions!

Andersen Family and Mr. Tough Guy

The Andersen Family with the Coco Guys

Mr. Tough Guy and his family are back!

The Andersen family together with Nicholas a.k.a. Mr. Tough Guy were back at Coco Beach last week. In November 2009, they were here for a week of Action Adventure but this time, it was really more for fun and relaxation with all the boys in tow. The Andersen family is headed by father Poul, sons Michael, Nicholas, Kenneth and Nicklas and their best buddies Carsten, Kim, Thomas and Mads.

They enjoyed their 2-week holiday at Coco Beach. For starters, they rented the Hummer for a whole day of adventure, plus motor biking and doing all the water sports in the resort and engaging the Coco Mangyans in a well-fought volleyball game. They also sponsored the basketball team of the Coco guys who competed in the Barangay Sabang Summer Basketball League. Before they left, they bought food and drinks for everybody and had a small party at Madonna Beach (Aplayang Munti).

According to the Andersens, this is one of the best holidays they have had and will definitely come back again.

New Divers & Visit from Singapore

During the last week Coco Divers had 2 hard studying students making their PADI Open Water Diver course. Many hours of reading and watching video in their spare time finally paid off and they became divers last Wednesday.

Practicing skills again after the pool on the bottom of Sabang Bay is a part of the course.

After some time in the pool they mastered all their skills and were able to conquer the ocean to practice more on their skills and see all the wonderful creatures under water.

The two students are getting surrounded by butterfly fishes at Sabang Wrecks.

Buoyancy is one of the most important skills to learn and they both were very fast learners on those skills.

One of the students is demonstrating perfect vertical buoyancy.

And who are those two new divers?
Our own Human Resource Manager, Lyzzelle Ceralde, and the other well-known person is … Our own In-House Doctor, Ariel Torres.

The two new-born divers are having big smiles on their lips.

Congratulation from Coco Divers and keep up the good work, maybe you soon become a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver so you can explore more of our dive sites.

Visit from Singapore.

We are always happy to be at your service!

Even Marilyn Tan, Brenda Koh Soo Lin, Emily Ortega and Eunice Tay from Singapore specifically choose Coco Divers as their diving operator.

Before their important meeting in Manila they decided to make some vacation here in the Philippines to charge their batteries.

And how is the best way of charging your batteries… by diving – of course!

The four happy ladies from Singapore.

They are usually making three dives a day and in between the dives they just chill around Coco Divers. Normally they are at Coco Divers for the first dive and out after they are closing. So they are really enjoying their vacation and dives!
