Sailboat Trip with Jeppe & Nini Kerchopps

Sailors Jeppe and Nini exploring Puerto Galera

Would you like to explore unknown beaches and coves around Puerto Galera on your own? Or be a Robinson Crusoe for a day??

Hop on our Coco Mini Sailboat every Monday and Thursday at ten in the morning. But, you must be skilled enough in maneuvering a sailboat, even if it is a mini sail boat. Without proper techniques, the sailboat can’t move or it might move very fast and tumble out of control.

But not to worry, just like the young Danish couple Jeppe and Nini Kerchopps did on their holiday at Coco Beach. The couple explored the beaches and coves of Puerto Galera using our Coco Mini Sailboat. First, Jeppe shared that he had a sailboat back home and he wanted to try ours, but he got a bit confused because our sailboat was different from his. Then, our hummer driver Romel, who used to be a sailor and fisherman before, taught him the basics. After a 15 minute lesson, Jeppe & Nini were steering the sailboat and enjoying the thrill and excitement of sailing along with the waves.

According to them the Coco Mini Sailboat is really cool and fantastic. And they will try it again next time they come back. So, who’s afraid of the Coco Mini Sailboat? None!

Medical Mission Batch VI

The patients on their way to Manila

Last Monday, 22nd of February, eleven Mangyans with cataracts left Coco beach for treatment at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment. They were accompanied by one of our staffers, Warlito Aniag and their guardian Bert “Kuya” Ramos.

The patients are Benigno Vidal, Marciano Vidal, Mariano Pandayo & Sinaida Sinduraan (Saclag Mangyan Village), Rodolfo Ricana, Pedro Takuloy, Talina Senduraan, Melissa Senduraan & Mio Asinduraan (Bugtong Mangyan Village), and from Baclayan Mangyan Settlement are Urbana Manalo and Mariano Tarnate.

Benigno Vidal & Mariano Tarnate had been operated their eyes already. But, the JRMMC doctors decided to have a follow-up operation for much better vision of their eyes.

Before leaving Coco Beach, in-house physician Dr. Ariel Torres conducted a physical examination to make sure they were fit and ready for the operation.

Next time, we will give you the results of the operation.

Adventure with the Ibsen Family

The Ibsen Family at the Tamaraw Falls

Last week, we featured the Ibsen family together with other guests on their snorkeling tour and how much they enjoyed it. Now, they are here again…not just them but with the whole family! Keld and his wife Vibeke and children Anne-Sofie and twins Rasmus & Mathias enjoyed the whole day adventure with Vibeke’s parents and brothers, Torben & Ingrid Jorgensen (parents) Christian Storm (brother) and his wife Jane and daughter Ivy.

On the Carabao Cart ride to Tukuran Falls and Lagoon

At 8:30 am, the group started their adventure with a boat ride to Puerto Galera. Then they rode on a jeepney up to Tamaraw falls. After enjoying the falls, their journey continued on carabao rides going to the Tukuran lagoon where they bathed in the crystal fresh water and had a barbeque lunch by the river side. After lunch, they took a jeepney ride again to the capital city of Oriental Mindoro… Calapan City and shopped in the biggest wet and dry market of Mindoro.

Except for Keld & Vibeke, all of them were first timers at and had 10 days holiday at Coco Beach. According to the family, it was such a wonderful holiday and they realize Coco Beach is truly a paradise and you can’t leave without a promise to come back.

Crocodile Snake Eel & Rescue Divers

If you are lucky, you can spot the head of a crocodile snake eel (Brachysomophis crocodilinus) while the rest of its body is buried in the sand. It is especially in the area around Sabang wrecks where you can see it.

The snake eel reaches a length of 1.20 meters but divers normally only see the head.

During last week Neil was teaching a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course for Karsten and on the underwater photo part, they were extremely lucky to get the following pictures of a double lined mackerel getting too close to a snake eel.

A crocodile snake eel attacking a totally surprised double lined mackerel.

With a hard blow to the neck of the fish, the snake eel paralyses the fish and nearly knocks it unconscious.

The second punch was to the stomach and you can clearly see the marks from the snake eel’s teeth. Then the big struggle started to get the mackerel headfirst into the sand.

Young and “old” PADI Rescue Divers.

As mentioned before, the specialty of the year is our Rescue Diver course. And that is what Lise read in our newsletter. So when she arrived in Coco Beach the first thing she did was to go to the dive center and signed in for the course.

Lise is listening carefully to the briefing before she goes out to practice some rescue skills.

Back in 2008 Lise was on her first visit to Coco Beach and at that time she really got hooked on diving. She finished her PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver course in only 6 days at an age of only 12 years.

So at the age of 14 years, she is now the youngest Rescue Diver we ever certified. Congratulation Lise…from all the staff at Coco Divers.

But that is not all, we also just certified our oldest Rescue Diver ever. Steen was reading our newsletter and decided to take his Rescue Diver course when he came to Coco Beach.

Steen is getting a short briefing before he has to rescue a victim in the water.

So at the age of 58 Steen can call him self a newly certified Rescue Diver. Well done Steen.
