Coco Beach’s Earth Hour

Coco Beach eagerly participated again in the world wide celebration of Earth Hour. On March 31, Coco Beach not only switched off the lights but also made extra steps to help protect the environment.

Around 9:30 in the morning guests, staff and boatmen joined in the Beach Clean Up at Haligi, Agas Beach and Long Beach. These are the beaches Coco Beach uses for the daily Free Boat Tour. The group collected lots of plastic and garbage during the cleaning operation. This is our simple way of showing mother earth that we care.

Late in the afternoon, around 50 in-house guests headed by Elian Caganan, Eugene Dizon and Dining Supervisor Rodel Lopez  joined in the Tree planting activity.

At 8:30 in the evening during Garden Fiesta Party all lights were switched off for an hour. Children of the Service Families all dressed in white lined up at the garden holding a glass with candles. The children went around with lit candles and placed one at each table. This is not only environment friendly but it also added a little romantic touch and intimacy to the evening.

And to entertain them during the Earth Hour, the Silab Fire Dancers once again gave a fiery performance. Then it was time for the world class dance number rendered by Lahing Batangan Dancers. Around 80 guests joined in the Earth Hour celebration that night.

Coco Beach will continue to support and celebrate Earth Hour.

Lene’s 46th Birthday

Lene Hansen and her family’s first visit to Coco Beach Island Resort was back in 2003. Now, she is on her 6th visit with her two grown sons Mads and Rasmus. Traveling with them are Lene’s parents Rise and Hans Larsen who are both now on their 18th visit to Coco Beach!

Rise and Hans were the first to arrive in Coco Beach. It was Lene’s idea to surprise her parents with a trip to Coco Beach with her sons. Lene and her sons arrived a few days after Rise and Hans. Her plan was to surprise them at their usual spot at the beach. Much to Lene’s surprise, Rise and Hans were not in their usual spot! So they ended up looking for them instead for a bit before making the big surprise.

On April 1, Lene celebrated her 46th birthday (not an April Fool’s joke). Early in the morning, she was serenaded at her room’s balcony by Service Papa Mario and his wife Angie. After a very pleasant wake up call by her Service Family, she was again serenaded by the waiters and waitresses while having a breakfast. Lene got a chocolate cake - one of her favorite flavors.

After breakfast, Lene and her family together with her parents Hans and Rise, friends Willy and Nancy, Peter and Lis Juhl went on a whole day trip at Tukuran Water Falls with guide Darwin.

According to her she loves the place and the people who are always warm and friendly and go beyond their duty to make sure they have a nice holiday. One thing is certain they would come back again as long as they can.

Happy birthday, Lene. See you all back in Coco Beach!

Billiard Tournament

One of the 101 Activities at Coco Beach Island Resort is a Billiard Tournament. A few days back, an Eight-Ball Billiard Tournament was held at the Barracuda Bar. Seven guests participated in the tournament refereed by Barracuda Bartended and Billiard Shark Willy Caguete. The players were Danish nationals Hans, Peter, Tommy, Rasmus, Anders, Mads and Alex Bailey from Spain.

The tournament started at 9:00 in the evening where the first round was an elimination. After two hours of a very tight elimination game. Two cue artists Mads of Denmark and Alex from Spain advanced in the finals.

In the final round, the best of the 2 players must win twice to claim the title. Alex took the first game as he easily cleaned-up the table after Mads missed the number 4 ball. Then on the second game Mads fought back and successfully shot the eight ball in the corner pocket.

The third and final round was even more exciting. Mads had the chance to win the game when Alex missed the no. 7 ball. Then on his turn apparently he missed it too giving Alex the opportunity and luckily cleaned-up the table. Alex received a new billiard cue stick, a Coco t-shirt while Mads got Coco t-shirt and for the non winners a glass of rhum coke.

Congratulation Alex! Until the next Billiard Tournament.

Coco Beach’s 3rd New Moon Party

Previously this event was held at the beach but due to not so cooperative weather we opted to hold it at the Carabao Restaurant’s Garden. Around 50 guests joined to party. Even though it rained some the day before, not a drop was seen during the New Moon Party! Maybe next time we’ll hold it in the beach and see if that scares away the rain.

For March’s New Moon Party, the crowd was entertained by Iraya Band, Pirates Band, Octopus Garden Band and the highly flammable Silab Fire Dancers.

The Pirates Band was formed during the Coco Explorer I and originally composed of the guides, crew and doctor of the said cruise ship. The remade Pirates Band are the Axalan siblings - Odi (one of the original pirates), Mariel and Jojo. The group sang Coco Beach’s famous song “Paradise Song”. This song is an original by Odi who used to be one of the guides in Coco Beach - and a famous one at that.

Octopus Garden Band is made up of seasonal artists. Leading the band and on drums/percussions is Jing Masilungan with Kulot Marquez on guitar and vocals, Japoy Shrimpy on percussions and DJ, the only woman and French in the band - Lorenza Kitrin on guitar and vocals. The band was formed less than a year ago. Why the strange band name? As they were forming the group, they were in one of the beaches of Puerto Galera and thought that this place (Puerto Galera) is a very tropical place with great dive sites and snorkeling areas...thus the name Octopus Garden Band.

It was pretty obvious that the party-goers had another New Moon Party blast. Next New Moon Party is on April 21 (Saturday). See you then!
